BOYLAN NETS HATTRICK AS ROVERS BRUSH ASIDE CLACTON

Steve Lovell2 Dec - 14:46

Rovers 5-0 Clacton

Great Wakering Rovers eased past Clacton as Callum Boylan netted a hat-trick and Harry Talbot scored a brace which saw the rovers beat Clacton 5-0.

This win was much needed as this made it back-to-back wins since the start of November. Rovers had been winless in their last three games but now look to be back on track.

Rovers were boosted with the return of defender Danny Cossington in the heart of the defence for Bradleigh Rowland and Shaye La-Rose was rotated for Alfie Whiteaker.

Clacton had been going through a torrid time as of late with their off-field issues. They were winless in their last six and their last win was back in late September against Hullbridge Sports.

KICKOFF:

Rovers were off to a flying start in the first half and scored with their first attempt inside five minutes. A long throw by Bradley Bennett was cleared back out to him on the left and he delivered a dangerous cross across the face of goal which Harry Talbot poked home from close range to give the rovers an early lead.

The rovers then doubled their lead less than ten minutes later. Harry Talbot gained possession in midfield on the right after some good build up play. He got his head up and pinged the ball over the top of the Clacton defence to allow Callum Boylan to run in on goal and slot the ball into the bottom right past the stranded goalkeeper to give the home side a two goal advantage.

Callum could of scored another just after twenty minutes when he charged down the ball inside the area following a defensive mix up. Just after he got to the ball, he suffered a clash of knees with Clacton's goalkeeper Josh Fowler. He received treatment for five minutes but was soon back up and going.

The match calmed down for half an hour as the visitors started to try to get back in the game but fortunately for the rovers, nothing materialised as any chance they had didn't cause any problems.

It wasn't until just before halftime the rovers made it a three goal advantage. Another long throw by Bradley Bennett on the left was headed onto the back post by Thomas Barton and the ever dangerous Callum Boylan was their to poke the ball into the bottom right to net his brace.

Harry Talbot could have netted a fourth when he attempted an over head kick from a Bradley Bennett long throw, but his effort rattled the post before the ball was cleared away.

HALFTIME: Rovers 3-0 Clacton

At halftime, Marcus Bowers made a few changes to freshen some things up, Raheem Gray and Luca Albon were on for Ben Search and Dominic Locke.

With just over fifteen minutes to go, rovers were given a penalty. Harry Talbot gained possession of the ball on the left and managed to dribble past three players before he was hacked down in the opposition's box and the referee pointed to the spot. Harry Talbot stepped up and blasted his penalty into the bottom right for his brace and his twelfth goal of the season.

With twenty minutes to go, both Callum Boylan and Clacton's Harry Harvey were booked following a off-ball incident.

With less than ten minutes left Callum Boylan completed his hattrick. Luca Albon played a lofted pass over the top of the midfield for Callum Boylan to run through on goal. He shrugged off his marker and blasted the ball into the left of the keeper's near post to make it five. Callum's third hattrick for the rovers.

Callum Boylan could have added a sixth when he gained possession inside the area and turned his marker but his curling effort was pushed away well by Clacton's keeper Josh Fowler.

FULLTIME: Rovers 5-0 Clacton

An excellent performance for the rovers and a clean sheet. They now have a week long break before they travel to Benfleet on Tuesday the 10th December for their Errington Challange cup tie. They then return to league action on Saturday 14th as they travel to Halstead Town.
