Woodford Town 3-1 Rovers

Great Wakering Rovers were stunned after a second half fight back from Woodford Town as they scored three second half goals.

Rovers came into the game unbeaten in five games in all competitions but were dealt a blow before the game. Harrison Topliss had to pull out due to illness and top scorer Harry Brown was nursing a groin problem. Woodford Town had been in good form, having won five of their seven league games this season.

KICKOFF
The game was set to be a feisty encounter. In less than two minutes from kickoff, skipper Ben Search was cautioned following a challenge. Most of the game was an exciting end to end affair with both teams going close but just couldn’t find that final ball in. Woodford had the first close chance of the game, Nathan Sollosi was played through on the left and managed to get a shot off but George Martin stuck out a leg at his near post to keep the score line level.

After just after the half our mark, rovers made the break through. Callum Boylan was played through on the left wing from a ball over the top from Kingdom Dawson, he was one on one with Agboola and forced a great save from the Woodford Town goalkeeper to his right and Perry Dunn smashed in the rebound from close range.

Just before halftime, Woodford Town went close to getting their equaliser. They made an exchange of passes around the edge of the box and Marko Protic managed to get a vicious shot off but George Martin was there to make a fantastic one armed save to tip the ball around the left post. Rovers kept their slender lead as the two teams headed in for a halftime.

HALFTIME: Woodford Town 0-1 Rovers

However, the second half would be an entirely different story. Woodford Town equalised just after three minutes. Kingdom Dawson was ushering the ball out of play and was allegedly tripped as Woodford won the ball back and Marko Protic produced a fine curling effort just outside the box into the top corner but George Martin to made a fantastic save around the near post. However, the corner was delivered and Marko Protic fired home an equaliser, making it three goals in two games for the striker.

Ten minutes later just before the hour mark, Woodford Town took the lead. Another corner was delivered and a shot from inside the box rebounded off a defender and into the net

With the rovers continued pushing on in search for a late equaliser, all hope was ended in the sixth minute of stoppage time, as Nathan Sollosi scored a third to seal the tie. Woodford Town had a counter attack and the ball was played down the left to Sollosi. He traveled with the ball towards the edge of the box, cut in past Perry Dunn and smashed the ball into the bottom left corner past the outstretched arms of George Martin.

FULL TIME: Woodford Town 3-1 Rovers

The result knocked the rovers off top spot and dropped down to third in the league standings. They’ll now turn their attention to next Saturday as they travel to Hullbridge Sports who are managed by former rovers gaffer Steve Roberts as they look to bounce back.
